TOEFL Speaking Task 2 Practice Test #14

You will read a short passage and listen to a conversation on the same topic. You will then be asked a question about them. After you hear the question, you will have 30 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak.

The question for TOEFL Speaking Task 2 is almost always the same: The woman (or man) expresses her opinion about the proposal described in the letter. Briefly summarize the proposal, then state her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion. This format stays consistent across tests.

Suggestion to Close the Coffeehouse

The university’s coffeehouse initially seemed like a great idea—a comfortable space for students to meet and study over a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, this coffeehouse has not lived up to expectations. It’s rarely busy, making it an unappealing spot for socializing, and the poor lighting makes it an ineffective place to study. While it may have had potential, the reality is that the coffeehouse just isn’t serving its intended purpose. It’s time for the university to close it and reconsider other ways to create student-friendly spaces.
